PARK HISTORY

Buttery Brook Park was created over 25 years ago by Joseph Taylor, Parks Superintendent for the town of South Hadley. The land for this park was acquired from Fire District #1 Water Department in 1959 and the house was deeded by the Kielbasa Family in 1959. Joe involved a number of people in the development of the park and bartered for most of the materials. He and his staff crafted many of the picnic table and benches and the Lion’s Club built the pavilions.

A new, centrally located playscape area began taking shape in 2008 thanks in part to fundraising activities by the Friends of Buttery Brook Park and many generous individual and business contributions. The park staff has made many improvements to the park in connection with this project, including a new volleyball area, and additional play equipment will be added in the future.
